Top 5 Retrowave Artists
Everything old is new again, and everything 80s is popular again. Retrowave is a genre of music which emulates the synth heavy sound of the 80s, especially soundtrack composers such as Tangerine Dream and John Carpenter. It goes by a variety of names, including synthwave, futuresynth, and outrun (after the video game). Here are our picks for the Geek Top 5 Retrowave Artists.
5. Kavinsky
French producer Kavinsky was one of the first retrowave artists to gain widespread notoriety, when his song “Nightcall” was featured as
the title track in the 2011 film Drive. The song has over 96 million views on YouTube, and his album Outrun, a reference to the video game
of the same name, is one of the primary reasons the genre is sometimes defined as outrun.

3. Tronicbox
Tronicbox takes a slightly different approach to retro music, he takes modern vocals from artists like Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande and rearranges them into 80s pop songs, complete with extravagant sax and guitar solos, and it works amazingly well. 2. Carpenter Brut
Carpenter Brut is quickly becoming one of the most popular artists in the genre. He uses darker and heavier synths to create a more ‘metal’
electronic sound than was used in the 80s, but still is reminiscent of the classic sound. His music has been used in the Corridor Digital
short film Real GTA, and more recently in the trailer for Samurai Jack season 5.
